A pleasant hike through the verdant terrace and thickly forested hills with the opportunity for visiting many a historical sites and the added advantage of socio- culture exploration.
Standing on a plateau, just beyond Panauti about 40 km away from Kathmandu , is a small sleepy settlement of Balthali village which rests at the juction of Roshi and Ladku Khola rivers. High above the southern ridge of this exceptional hamlet stands Balthali Village Resort (1650 m) - an outstanding place of isolation and relaxation amidst a surrounding of typical Nepali countryside with terraced rice fields and ochre thatched farm houses. With snowy peaks of Dorjee Lhakpa Langtang and whole range of mountains rests clear and bright on the northern horizon. Whilst the back yard is dominated by high hill of lush green Mahabharat Range which makes Balthali village Retreat - a perfect place for solitude and then to relax midst a countryside where times stands still , upper-turbid , almost like the middle ages.
There are a number of different options to start a hike to Balthali Village. For this itinerary we initially drive to Namo Boudha from Kathmandu and then start our hike to Balthali through thick forests with luxuriant floras, colorful rhododendron, mangolia and sal trees which cover the hill opening out to terrace fields. Nature lovers and bird watchers can spend hours exploring Nepal’s unique rural setting and discovering varied species of birds along with tradition architect and culture of the local people. This 'off the beaten location' has endless trials leading to some ethnic tribal communities within its periphery if one wishes to extend this hike for a day or two to exploring the surrounding in a leisurely manner. During the hike we will also have the opportunity to visit many of the sacred and ancient temples and monasteries such as Namo Buddha, Indreshwar mahadev and Brahmayani Temples located alongside the trail.
