Hike to the top of Champa Devi (2278m) affords a panoramic view of the west Kathmandu Valley, back dropped by the snow covered Himalayas.
Champadevi is situated at the height of 2278 meter on the western ridge surrounding Kathmandu valley. The trail to the ridge top actually starts from Pikhel, it can either be started from Chobhar or from Pharping, climbing steeply to join at a saddle close to the top. After an early breakfast in Kathmandu, we drive about an hour to Pharping which is 16 kilometers south of Kathmandu and lies on the way to Dakshinkali Temple from where it is about 3-hour's walk to reach Champadevi height. Alternatively, the hike can be approached from Haatiban on the road to Dakshinkali. The trail takes two – three hours and begins next to the Haatiban Resort car park. The first stretch is a pleasant stroll through pine forests. The final approach is a very steep climb over rock outcroppings. There is a Hindu shrine and a Buddhist stupa on the summit. For the return, we can avoid using the same route by continuing west along the ridge, and climbing down the northern slope to Naikap on the highway to Thankot where we can catch a bus.
