An excellent day hike near Kathmandu offering superb mountain views with a walk through the pristine forest and rural communities
Situated at a height of 2194m from sea-level, Chisapani is a small village from where there are superb views of many of the northern Himalayan including the Everest and Langtang ranges. After breakfast in Kathmandu, we drive to Sundarijal (1 hr) and walk for 4 hours to reach Chisapani ridge. The hike itself is a soft one except for a brief uphill haul on the winding path through the forest through the Shivapuri National Park and is of total 14 km length. On the way, we pass through some ethnic settlements with farm lands where most of the time locals are seen cultivating different crops throughout the year. Despite its proximity with Kathmandu, Chisapani is the least frequented areas at the Kathmandu valley rim offering a rich insight into the lives, history and religion of local inhabitants. In the spring, early autumn and winter it offers wonderful mountain vistas, stretching from Everest in the east to, Langtang and Annapurna in the west. The return walk is through a very lovely dense forest involving mostly downhill walk back to Kathmandu.
