This is an ideal introduction to Yoga and Meditation retreat in Nepal as this tour incorporates elements of fine nature / culture excursion of Kathmandu valley rim’s major historical as well as religious sites while providing an excellent opportunity to hike through some of the most pristine region of the country. We start the tour from an exclusive sightseeing program of Kathmandu valley –including Patan and Bhaktapur and then proceed to a mild hike to Namo Boudha from where we continue hiking towards our final destination – the Balthali village.

Situated roughly 40km south east of the Kathmandu valley the picturesque Balthali village stands on a plateau in the mid hills of Nepal surrounded by luxuriant forest of colorful rhododendron, magnolia and Sal trees with two rivers running side by side and converging to form an beautiful confluence.

Upon our arrival, we stay at the beautifully located Balthali Village resort for two nights and undertake various activities here, including bird watching, culture tours and agro tour (June –August) and get to experience firsthand Nepal’s rural community, their way of life and long held tradition. The resort is a small, cozy retreat with bird's eye view of green terrace fields dotted with ochre painted houses and faint hue of Himalayan peaks in the north horizon. It offers a sunrise in the east, speculating Himalayan range of Manaslu, Langtang & Everest in the north, innumerable rice terraces in the west & huge bodied green forest of Mahabharata range in the South.

Each morning there will be regular Yoga classes as taught by our expert Yoga guru Dr. Chintamani Gautam followed by exclusively designed meditation classes in the evening. The morning yoga sessions is combined with short yet meaningful meditation practice where evening meditation practices are quite lengthy, often crossing over an hour and are usually followed by discourse given by Dr. Gautam himself.

After concluding the trip in Balthali, we drive back to Kathmandu for overnight. The following day is kept free for participants to explore the city on their own or for shopping and other things of their interests.

Day 03: Early morning Yoga / Meditation class at the Thamel Eco Resort followed by breakfast and we start a day long sightseeing tour of Patan and Bhaktapur cities.

Patan
Patan is separated from Kathmandu by the Bagmati River and is the second largest town in the valley. It has historically been known by its Sanskrit name Lalitpur (City of Beauty) and its Newari name, Yala. Patan's Durbar Sq is full of temples, with a far greater concentration of architecture per square meter than in Kathmandu or Bhaktapur. There are more than 600 stupas and 185 bahals scattered throughout the fascinating backstreets making the city a perfect choice for the discerning visitors.

Bhaktapur
Known as the city of Devotees, Bhaktapur is the third major town within Kathmandu valley. This traffic free and traditionally intact town is also in many ways the most timeless and is certainly more pleasurable walking in. The cobblestone streets link a string of temples, courtyards and monumental squares, and the sidestreets are peppered with shrines, wells and water tanks. The town's cultural life is also vibrant, with centuries-old traditions of craftsmanship and strong communities of potters, woodcarvers and weavers. Look for rice laid out to dry in the sun, people collecting water or washing under the communal taps, dyed yarns hung out to dry, children's games, fascinating shops and women pounding grain - there's plenty to see.
Today, we will have a lunch break either in Patan or Bhaktapur itself and return to the hotel in the early evening. After some rest we will then assemble in a special hall for meditation discourse from Dr. Chintamani Gautam, our Yoga teacher. And after dinner we will assemble again for classic meditation practice as taught by Dr. Gautam, for an hour before retiring to the bed.

Day 04: Drive to Namo Boudha – Hike to Balthali:
After an early morning Yoga session in Thamel Eco Resort, followed by breakfast, we drive to Namo Boudha which will take us about an hour and half. Namo Buddha is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal and one of the holiest in the world. It is known as the place where the Buddha, in a previous life as a prince, gave his body to a starving tigress and her cubs. After exploring this site we will have a lunch break and sometime for rest before hiking to Balthali village. The hike to Balthali from Namo Boudha is very pleasant and passes through pristine forest and rural communities. Upon arrival we will be allotted our rooms and after some rest and refreshment we assemble in the Yoga hall for today’s session of Meditation as taught by Dr. Chintamani Gautam.

Day 05: We have an early start for today for the beautiful sunrise view over the eastern horizon and if the weather is clear, we have dramatic views of the northern Himalayan ranges. After we will proceed for today’s session of Yoga class as taught by Dr. Gautam. After Yoga we have breakfast and then we set off for a day long hike around the Balthali visiting many natural and cultural sites of attractions.  We can actually spend the whole day exploring this unique village and discovering many bird species. This "off the beaten location" has endless trials leading to some unknown villages of Tamangs, Newars and some ethnic tribes offering excellent short hikes as well as mountain biking experience for the more enthusiasts. Pack lunch will be provided somewhere in a scenic spot. We return to the resort in the late afternoon and after some rest and refreshment we assemble in the main Yoga room for the evening session of Meditation.
