Originated in the Tibet Autonomous region of China, the Trishuli River is a trans-boundary river and is one of the major tributaries of the Narayani River basin in central Nepal. More than 60 per cent of the total drainage basin of the Trishuli lies in Tibet with about 9 per cent being covered by snow and glaciers. 85 per cent of its catchment area of 4,640 square kilometres (1,790 sq mi) lies above 3,000 meters (9,800 ft) out of which 11 per cent lies above 6,000 metres (20,000 ft). It has been regularly gauged at Betrawati at an elevation of 600 metres (2,000 ft). The average lowest and the melt season discharges of this river are close to average discharges recorded on the Narayani River
With impressive gorges, exciting rapids, some easier sections and easy accessibility from Nepal’s major tourist hub as well as flexible amount of time make it the perfect trip for first –time or experienced rafters.
Note: There will be an orientation meeting with the rafting guide each day before the trip, providing you with an opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding any aspects of your rafting trips.
Kayaking
A fantastic first timer river or warm up river for those going on to the bigger rivers in Nepal. Plenty of small rapids and a few challenging ones. This river is ideal for the first time kayaker. Though it should be noted in the monsoon its definatley not a river for the faint of heart or less skilled.
Day 01: After an early breakfast in Kathmandu we drive to Charaundi (83 kms west and the put in point) and start rafting till Kurintar. We will stop in a scenic spot for lunch and then continue rafting to Kurintar. Our Sherpa will set up tents by the sandy river bed and we group in around the bonfire with music, drink and barbeque and have dinner later. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 02: After breakfast we continue rafting upto Simaltar. We will stop over somewhere for lunch and then continue rafting to Simaltar and follow the same schedule as of yesterdays.
Day 03: From Simaltar, we continue rafting to Ghaighat and return to Kathmandu by private vehicle. Alternatively we can also visit the Chitwan National Park by amending the itinerary and come back to Kathmandu the following day.
Please note that the Trishuli River Rafting Itinerary is very flexible and can be customized easily upon your request. As the driving distance from Kathmandu to put in point is only about 83km, it gives us plenty of flexibility either to do this as a one day trip, a two or three day trip or even to combine it with further activities such as Jungle safari in Chitwan, a visit to Lumbini – the birth place of Lord Buddha or to the enchantingly beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara. Let us know how you would like it and we will craft the itinerary accordingly.
