Bhote Koshi is another popular river for rafting. The Bhote Koshi originates in the Tibetan plateau from where it flows down steep gorges to Nepal in the south. Naturally the landscape it follows through is rugged, adding thrills to the trip. It’s a tough ride with class III to V (-) rapids at the higher flow and class III in the lower levels. The Bhote Koshi is regarded as one of the best short white water rafting trips in the world. It is the steepest river that is rafted in Nepal, with continuous rapid action making this river a full-on commitment and a huge adrenaline rush.

The Bhote Koshi or Rongshar Tsangpo is a trans-boundary river and is part of the Kosi or Sapta Koshi river system in Nepal. It originates in Tibet Autonomous Region of China.The source of the Rongshar Tsangpo or Bhote Koshi lies in the mountains to the east of the Kathmandu-Lhasa Highway in Tibet. After flowing through Tingri County of Tibet, the Rongshar Tsangpo enters Nepal downstream from Drubden, at an elevation of 2,750 metres (9,020 ft). In Nepal, it flows through steep and deep gorges and joins the Sun Kosi, downstream from Barabise.

This adventure can be completed in the shortest time duration. From the put in point at Lamosangu dam we set off rafting for 2 full days and return to Dolalghat , the take out point with the option of staying at Borderland Resort where we can indulge ourselves in a varieties of extra curriculum activities including, kayaking, canyoning, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, a trip to the Tibet border, relaxation on the grassy lawn, cool drinks in the Arniko Bar, a tour through a Nepali handmade paper factory, leadership training programs, live music, wholesome food, great folks and much more.

Note: There will be an orientation meeting with the rafting guide each day before the trip, providing you with an opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding any aspects of your rafting trips.

Day 0 1: We take a trip to 95 km. east from Kathmandu is the starting point Lomosangu- Dam of the trip. This is a spectacular drive through villages and if weather permits, you will have fantastic mountain views i.e. Ganesh Himal, Langtang etc.  Before we begin we will take lunch and set up the rafts. Your guides will then issue you with the standard rafting equipment: a paddle, a splash jacket, a helmet and a life jacket. We then head to the river for our safety briefing. Then we raft the first 10 km of the MOST exciting stretch of the river and then return to the start to play again the same stretch the next day rather than continue with only half a day paddling to the end. Drives back to our camp.

Day 2: After breakfast a quick pack up and set out (approx. 9 to 10 a.m.) run white water hit again a class 3 rapid starting from upper section. You have the second chance to show how your raft team can work well together in challenging rapids.

We have lunch on the river and continue the action until the take out point Dolalghat Bazaar about 2 to 3 p.m. and bus back to Kathmandu.


Please note that the Bhote Koshi River Rafting Itinerary can be customized if you prefer different put in / take out points instead of the one mentioned above. The duration can also be adjusted depending upon the availability of your time duration with options of either staying at the Borderland Resort for more adventure activities or returning back to Kathmandu directly and even staying overnight halfway through at Dhulikhel. Just let us know your interests and we will arrange the rest accordingly.

Trip Cost Includes

-All ground transportation; to the put in point and back from the take out point

-Accommodation on a twin sharing basis with camp fire.
-All International standard rafting equipment as necessary (such as self bailing rafts, helmets, life jackets, kayaks, plastic paddles and spray jackets etc.)
-Camping & Cooking equipment (tents, mattress & kitchen gear).
-Rafting guides, cooks, and other helping staff, their salary, insurance, meals etc.
-All necessary fees, government/local taxes, all national park and conservation area fees.
