Mt. Hiunchuli

Mt. Hiunchuli

Days from

Mt. Hiunchuli forms a massive south-facing wall together with Annapurna South. Its eastern face overlooks the Modi Khola and guards the entrance to the Annapurna Sanctuary. Though not much of a technically difficult, the climb however, is vulnerable to rack falls and route finding may also be a problem. Even though it offers major new route potentials, it has received little attention from mountaineers and is rarely climbed

Hiunchuli, at a height of 6,441 meters, forms a formidable south-facing wall together with Annapurna South. It has a reputation for being prone to avalanche and rock fall as well as the difficulty of route finding – there is no obvious ‘standard’ line up and is best tackled in true expedition style.

Even though it offers major new route potential, it has received little attention from mountaineers and is rarely climbed. The most common approaches are via the Southeast Face or Northwest Face though the latter is seldom attempted.

Hiunchuli‘s eastern face overlooks the Modi Khola and guards the entrance to the Annapurna Sanctuary. An American Peace Corps Expedition first climbed Hiunchuli in October 1971 via the Southeast Face.

As access is easy and altitude limited, the climb can be attempted with an itinerary of just less than three weeks.
